Lake Success-based nonprofit Island Peer Review Organization filed a state Department of Labor notice that 128 employees are at risk of layoffs due to contract expirations, but the nonprofit is seeking to re-establish contracts to prevent the layoffs.

Island Peer Review Organization, commonly referred to as IPRO, is a healthcare nonprofit that partners with state and federal agencies to establish innovative programs to advance healthcare. They work within more than 100 contracts and in 32 states and Washington, D.C.

The organization filed a state notice under WARN, the state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act that requires employers with more than 50 full-time employees to file notices when mass layoffs are to occur at least 90 days in advance.

Island Peer Review Organization said in a statement that it has not lost any of its contracts but that five are expiring in the coming months. They stated they have either re-submitted or intend to submit proposals to renew these contracts.

“Layoffs are unlikely to occur if IPRO is selected to continue providing these contract services,” the organization wrote in a statement.

The Lake Success-based organization employs 340 individuals with more than a third of them affected by potential layoffs.

Island Peer Review Organization has seven locations statewide.

Of the 128 potential layoffs, 83 positions are based on Long Island.

The organization has two offices on Long Island in Lake Success and Central Islip. Six Central Islip employees are expected to be affected by the layoffs with another 63 in-person and 14 remote Lake Success employees expected to be laid off.

Of the five other offices, six employees are expected to be affected at the New York City office and 39 employees at their three Albany locations.

The layoff start date is set for Sept. 30, according to the Aug. 12 state filing, with 103 separations scheduled for between Oct. 29 and Nov. 29.

Island Peer Review Organization initially filed a state warning for layoffs on July 19, yet reported only 25 employees being affected by potential layoffs. These too were scheduled to begin on Sept. 30.

In the July filing, six Central Islip employees were also expected to be affected but only three in-person and three remote employees at Lake Success.
