With its Basie, style Something Special Big Band is considered to be one of the finest swing/jazz bands.
The band has been featured at many of the major music and jazz festivals throughout the New York metropolitan area and has accompanied Count Basie band leader, Frank Foster, jazz trumpeter, Clark Terry, and internationally famous bassist Percy Heath during its concert/show services. Something Special Big Band also has six recordings to date
The highly talented band consists of five saxophones, four trombones, four trumpets, and a full rhythm section.
All the members of the band are professional musicians and most of them have performed with great swing bands such as Buddy Rich, Lionel Hampton, and Count Basie.
The band plays a variety of big band music from nostalgia to contemporary swing but is best known for its exciting Basie style. All performances include a male or female blues singer. The Something Special Big Band also gained national acknowledgment in Adriana Trigiani’s novel Tony’s Wife.
The Something Special Big Band musical performance is on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 2:00 PM at the Main Library at 159 Bayview Ave., Great Neck.
