Great Neck Library art exhibit: A Gathering of Flowers

The Great Neck Library will host an art exhibit showcasing artist Louis Bender’s watercolor summer florals.

The exhibit will be hosted from Aug. 5 through Aug. 29 at the Main Library Lower-Level Art Gallery located at 159 Bayview Ave. in Great Neck.

A reception will also be held on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. Anyone is invited to attend.

Lois Bender is a New York artist who interprets varied nature and garden themes, creating a fresh mix of painting, printmaking and mixed media.

GardenSpiritsNY, her design brand grew out of her retail art direction experience for Godiva Chocolates, pointing her towards the gift industry & becoming a retail product designer at the New York Botanical Garden.

She was born into her aesthetic garden sensibility as the daughter of Flora Bloom & granddaughter of Hortense Bloom.

With a B.A. from Hunter College and an MFA from Boston University in painting, she has been teaching art workshops in the Hamptons & New York for 20 years, teaching watercolor this summer at The Baker House in East Hampton. She has been a college adjunct art professor at Essex County College in Newark, New Jersey for 10 years.

She shows her work in Metro New York venues and recently in “Biophilia,” a group show at Yale University’s Sacred Music Art Gallery in April 2024 celebrating Earth Day and fighting climate change. Her work is represented in the Hamptons by Sara Nightingale Gallery.
