The Great Neck Historical Society has been uncovering and sharing the stories of many significant sites in the community and the architects who designed them.
On Thursday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m., expert on Long Island history Andrew Cronson will be discussing the stately work of Delano and Aldrich, among America’s most talented and lauded 20th-century architects of both residential and institutional works, and their connection to Great Neck.

Partners William Adams Delano and Chester Holmes Aldrich founded their firm in 1903 and secured commissions from the prodigious Rockefeller, Stokes and Winthrop families in their first year.
They went on to design notable landmarks, including the Knickerbocker Club, Union Club, Oheka Castle, the U.S. Embassy in Paris, Brown Brothers Harriman Building, Yale Divinity School, and the Marine Air Terminal at LaGuardia Airport.
Cronson, a Columbia University student, has been engaging in in-depth, novel research about the country’s most prominent architects, designers, and decorators, and their connections to Great Neck.
His work has taken him to locations rarely visited, giving him access to photograph places that have never been captured before.
Past presentations in his Great Neck Historical Society “Great Architects of Great Neck” series have included the careers of Ralph Walker and Emery Roth.
