Upcoming events at Hillside Public Library

March is Youth Art Month and The Hillside Public Library is having an Art Supply Drive for NYU Langone Child Life Program. Needed items are Coloring Books and Crayons.  Our patrons and community are always very generous with their donations, and we thank you in advance for your generosity in this latest Drive.

The Hillside Library is partnering with Long Island Coalition for the Homeless (LICH)in doing a Baby Necessities Drive.  Needed items include baby clothes, feeding essentials (bottles, brushes, formula) and bath essentials (wash cloths, body wash etc.) Also, diapers.  As always, we thank you for your generosity.

VITA Tax Aide “Free”

Free assistance is available for persons with incomes, $70,000 or less, who wish to have their taxes prepared by trained volunteers in the Volunteer Tax Assistance Program. You can call the library at 516 355-7850, x101 or 102 to schedule an appointment on any of the following days: Saturdays, March 25; April 1, 8 or 15.  The following are the appointment times: 10:15 a.m.; 11:15 a.m.; 12:15 p.m. or 1:15 p.m.

Chef Makin: Cooking Demo Indian Chicken Curry with Cumin Basmati Rice – All Purpose Rm.  Tuesday, March 28 at 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. Come and enjoy a well-balanced meal with Chef Geetu Makin:  Brighten up your dinner with the heartwarming colors and nutritious ingredients for this yummy Chicken Curry. Wake Up Your Spring Garden – All Purpose Room

Wednesday, March 29 at 6 – 7:30 p.m. Successful gardens and landscapes are the result of proactive gardeners and growers! Master Gardner Linda Reilly of the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County discusses what needs to be done to get your garden up and growing at the beginning of spring. Lawn care, soil testing, mulching, watering and the care of flowers and spring bulbs are some of the topics that will be discussed. Start the season off with a strong viable landscape!

Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease – All Purpose Room

Friday, March 31 at 1 p.m. Presented by Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care & Rehabilitation: For both caregivers and care recipients!   

Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease for caregivers:  This session offers an understanding of the causes and types of dementia and when to speak with your doctor.

Music Therapy for care recipients: Singing, movement and instrument playing to promote interpersonal engagement, awareness and enjoyment, in the next room.

Friday, March 24 at 7 p.m. Grades 5 – 12. Join our artist Alma as she virtually guides you through a step-by-step painting.  No experience necessary, beginners welcome!  For a list of supplies needed, please go to the library’s website.

Stemtastic: Doodle Bots! – All Purpose Room

Monday, March 27 at 5:30 p.m. Ages: 7 years- 11 years. Build and design your own bot! You can give it a face and some antennae and of course, a name, then we’ll set it loose on some paper and watch it doodle away! Each participant will get their own bot to take home

Sphero Painting Workshop! – All Purpose Room

Thursday, March 30 at 4:30 p.m. Grades 1 – 3. Join us for an exciting coding class where children will not only learn how to code, but also instruct their robotic Sphero to paint on a canvas!

Friday, March 31 at 10:30 a.m. Ages: 6 months – 5 years (with parent/caregiver). Join Ms. Andrea of Baby Jam for songs on guitar and animal puppet friends. Get ready to shake & move to a happy beat with drums, scarves, bubbles and more!

YA Art Club – All Purpose Room

Friday, March 31 at 5 p.m. Grades 5 – 12.  Help decorate the YA Room by creating a unique art project with Ms. Ambadjes.  By using a template & carbon tracing paper, everyone will have the chance to make a fun project, even if you don’t have any prior experience in art.  All projects will be displayed and returned the following class/month.
