Community members learned about the importance of emergency vehicles at the second annual Touch a Truck day.

The event took place on Aug. 6 at Mineola Memorial Library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Trucks that made an appearance at the event were military trucks, ambulance trucks, Nassau County Police rescue trucks, construction trucks, and race trucks. Also in attendance was Rubble from Paw Patrol, who is a Bulldog and his primary purpose is to help with construction-related work.

“We saw in the area that other libraries have done a Touch a Truck so my director wanted to try it,” Jaclyn Petrowski, secretary to the director at Mineola Memorial Library, said. “It was a very big success last year with about 300 to 400 people that came between the two hours.”

Petrowski said that this event allowed kids to explore trucks that they normally would not be able to explore. She said that the goal of this event was to teach the kids about the ins and outs of the various trucks.

“Kids should be able to explore in different trucks and learn about the firetrucks and just be able to touch different buttons without getting in trouble for it,” Petrowski said.

The event was a success with dozens of locals gathering at the library. They learned, first-hand, more about the trucks that play an important role in keeping communities safe across Nassau County.
