Two new “exciting” businesses are coming to the villages of Floral Park and Stewart Manor, according to Floral Park Board Trustee Lynn Pombonyo.

ShipNYC is a small shipping business owned by a United States Army veteran that is coming to 31 Covert Ave. in Floral Park.

Covert Avenue will also be home to a new deli. Nonna’s Italian Deli and Market will open at 27 Covert Ave.

Residents are invited to come out to Covert Avenue and support the small business openings on Feb. 24 at 11:30 a.m. during a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

At a village hall meeting on Tuesday, Floral Park board members also discussed a recent crime, a film permit request from Netflix, a resolution to raise the service award program amount for volunteer firefighters and a construction project at the former site of Centennial Hall.

Pombonyo discussed the involvement of the Floral Park Police Department in a criminal case in which a Queens man is accused of dumping a woman onto the street in Floral Park after she overdosed on fentanyl that he had sold to her.

The suspect, 43-year-old Charles McGriff of Rosedale, worked at John F. Kennedy Airport. When the police department discovered that McGriff was an airport employee, officers notified the federal government, according to Pombonyo. She said McGriff faces a 20-year sentence.

The board approved a film permit request from Netflix. The streaming and production company requested access to Oak Street for filming purposes on April 8 and April 9, as well as permission to park oversized vehicles on East Poplar Street.

Board members adopted a resolution to raise the service award program dollar amount for participating volunteer firefighters from $700 to $1,200 per year, which is the maximum allowed under New York State law, according to Mayor Kevin M. Fitzgerald.

This resolution is pending voter approval on March 19. Polls will be open on March 19 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Trustee Michael F. Longobardi announced that equipment arrived and construction began Tuesday for the new apartment building located at the former site of Centennial Hall.

The next Floral Park Board of Trustees meeting will be held on March 5.
