Former Sewanhaka High School student Wady Vasquez Asencio received his high school diploma, thanks to the New York State Education Department’s High School Diploma for Veterans program, more than 50 years after he left the academic institution. Wady was set to graduate in 1964, when the United States Army drafted him. He spent time in Fort Bragg, South Korea and Vietnam, receiving the Good Conduct Medal and International Medal of Honor.
