
Sewanhaka Central High School District appointed John Kenny as the new principal of Sewanhaka High School, effective Aug. 29.
Kenny has been with the district for over 25 years, beginning his career as a school counselor at Floral Park Memorial High School. He also has experience as an assistant principal at both Floral Park Memorial and H. Frank Carey High School.
For the past six years, Kenny served as the director of alternative education at Sewanhaka High School. He provided leadership and direction for the day-to-day operations of the Prestige Academy and oversaw the Academic Learning Center for students with suspensions.
Kenny has coached junior high school boys and girls basketball and junior varsity golf. He is also a co-chair of Drug-Free and Safe Schools and a Big Sister Advisor.
Kenny holds a bachelor’s in history from SUNY New Paltz, a master’s in counselor education and New York State Permanent Certification from Queens College, and a School District Administrator Certification from the College of New Rochelle.
