In honor of Lunar New Year, the World Languages Department in conjunction with the New York Chinese Cultural Center hosted Ink Brush Painting Workshops for the Mandarin students in both the Roslyn Middle School and the Roslyn High School.
Using an ink brush, a calligraphy artist taught the students about the relationship between ancient Chinese pictographs and their modern day ideographs.
Students learned how to write with the brush and to create their own paintings and Chinese symbols on rice paper.
“Guided by their teacher Ms. Huichee Yeh, our students enthusiastically accepted the challenge of mastering this skill and are looking forward to learning more,” Jennifer Sheehan, World Languages chairperson, said.
