The Great Library Card Adventure (GLCA) is back! This year, the library is reintroducing our exciting outdoor learning adventure. Port Washington children in grades K-5, along with their adult, are welcome to participate.
Our GLCA event works with smartphones and uses QR codes. The adventure begins upon finding the first QR code located outside the Port Washington Public Library, where participants must register for the game and get the first clue.
Continue the hunt by following more clues to the QR codes on buildings along, or close to, Main Street. Every QR code gives a little history of the buildings that were chosen for the game. Players who do not have access to a smartphone can borrow a paper copy of the game during library hours.
By participating, children in grades K-5 are helping to win books for their school libraries and are also entered in a daily raffle. The adventure takes about an hour to play, and it is a great activity to do during the April school vacation or on weekends.
The criteria for selecting buildings with clues were their historical significance to the town, their “kid appeal,” and if the building was located within the footprint of the game.
Call the Port Washington Public Library Children’s Library for more information. Enjoy the adventure!
