State Assemblywoman Gina L. Sillitti (D-Port Washington) announced that she presented a certificate to S.F. Falconer Florist in Port Washington to honor the third-generation business for its inclusion on the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry.
“Since 1920, S.F. Falconer Florist has helped Port Washington residents celebrate birthdays and notable occasions, or brighten up their day with fresh, beautiful flowers,” said Sillitti. “I was proud to nominate this beloved mom-and-pop shop for the historic business registry and I wish S.F. Falconer many more years of friendly customer service and exquisite flowers!”
Established in 2020, the Historic Business Preservation Registry honors businesses that have been in operation for at least 50 years and have left a mark on their communities. Elected state officials can nominate two businesses for the registry per legislative session.
S.F. Falconer Florist was founded in 1920 by Simon Frederick Falconer, a Scottish immigrant trained in agriculture and gardening. He worked as groundskeeper and greenhouse supervisor for Harry Guggenheim, who gifted Simon a greenhouse to start his business. The business has passed from father to son for three generations and is currently operated by Simon’s grandson, Frederick Falconer Jr.
“It is an honor for my family, my grandfather, father and myself, to be designated as an official Historic Business in the State of New York for being in business for 102 years in our Port Washington Community,” said Frederick Falconer Jr. “I appreciate being recognized and nominated by Assemblywoman Sillitti.”
