Residents forward celebrates HOWL-aween with a Community Wag-n-Walk

Residents Forward has uncovered a new way to help foster a more walkable community… invite dogs!

On Saturday, Oct. 28, more than thirty local dogs and their owners enthusiastically participated in a “Howl-aween Wag-n-Walk” event that featured costumes, a red carpet, and Puppaccino treats donated by board member and dog owner Cynthia Litman.

After the pups and their owners strolled from Bay Walk Park to Sunset Park, pups walked a red carpet to strut their adorable costumes for local esteemed judges Det. Tony Guzello, state Assemblywoman Gina Silitti, and Residents Forward Chairman Curt Trinko.

Costumes were skillfully judged based on creativity.   The coveted first-place award went to Lexi Billini who donned a princess pup costume in royal fashion. Meanwhile, the two creative “Hotdogs” tied for second place.

Kim Lichtenstein, the mastermind behind the Residents Forward’s Lets Walk PW project, shared her enthusiasm, stating, “Creating themed walks not only stimulates pedestrian traffic in our business district but also brings people of different generations together through shared interests.  I had so much fun organizing a magical sunset stroll in August, and then a kid-friendly back to school ice cream crawl in September.  The inclusion of dogs in our walks has really resonated with local families, and we are committed to making this an annual tradition.”

With a generous grant from the Gersh Family, Residents Forward is looking to expand the Let’s Walk Port Washington program to continue to grow community comradery.  Residents Forward Chairman Curt Trinko expressed his vision, saying, “Greenport is known for its carousel, Patchogue for its vibrant night scene, and with Lets Walk PW, we aspire to establish Port Washington as Long Island’s charming, pedestrian-friendly seaside community.

Trinko continued, “After all, good walking will lead to good business for our cherished local shops and eateries.”
