North Hempstead Town Councilmember Mariann Dalimonte recently attended the unveiling of a new butterfly mural at Baxter Pond.
The mural was painted by talented Port Washington resident Michelle Gurfein-Shain. At the event, Rewild Long Island hosted an informative workshop discussing the invaluable role that butterflies and pollinators play in our local environment.
Dalimonte stated, “I would like to thank Kim and John Keiserman, co-presidents of the Baxter Pond Foundation, Holly Byrne, executive director of the foundation who had the vision for this mural and pollinator garden, the Baxter Pond Foundation Board, and the wonderful mayor of Baxter Estates, Nora Haagenson.”
