Children and technology: Why parents should be concerned

Are your kids spending too much time on their phones? Are they complaining of headaches or poor sleep? Are you worried about their social interactions?

On Dec. 7th from 7 -8 pm, Patricia Wood, executive director of Grassroots Environmental Education and Visiting Scholar at Adelphi University, will present “Disconnect: Technology and Kids’ Health” at the Port Washington Public Library.

The presentation will focus on how too much technology can be damaging to children, including how exposure to blue light can interfere with our circadian rhythm, increasing the potential for a myriad of cascading effects, including depression and anxiety.

Dependency on technology can also interfere with normal social development, and long-term exposure to radiofrequency radiation from cell phones, tablets, wireless laptops, VR headsets and other wireless devices has also been associated with acute health symptoms including headaches, dizziness, nausea, insomnia, tinnitus and more serious health effects.

The program will be offered as both a live event and streamed online. For more information, please visit the Events page on the website of the Port Washington Library.
