Pinelawn Memorial Park & Arboretum is honored to announce a special collaboration with Paws of War, a Long Island-based not-for-profit organization, to make trained service dogs available as part of its grief support offerings to help Pinelawn families who are mourning the loss of a loved one.
Animals certified by Therapy Dog International, and trained by the professionals of Paws of War, will be on-site at Pinelawn’s upcoming Spring Candlelight Remembrance Vigil on April 13, at 6 PM.
This event is an annual occasion for approximately 300 attendees to honor their loved ones through a name-reading ceremony, accompanied by the lighting of candles. Guests will have the unique opportunity to visit the service animals throughout the vigil for comfort and support during their healing experience.
“Pinelawn is committed to helping guide our families every step of the way by offering tools and support so that they feel a sense of peace and security even during the most trying of times,” said Justin Locke, president of Pinelawn Memorial Park & Arboretum. “Our collaboration with Paws of War offers a new, unique, calming influence to support the healing process for those who are mourning. It is incredible to witness the therapeutic role animals can play, and we are honored to have these service dogs visiting at Pinelawn.”
Traditionally known for honoring and supporting veterans, Paws of War aids active military members, first responders, and those suffering from PTSD through animal therapy.
The training process that Paws of War service dogs go through prepares them to pick up on the acute signals that someone is suffering and intervene to shift the focus back to a positive environment.
