On Aug. 13, the Island Park community will come together, to race to slurp down as many clams on the half shell as possible to benefit the organization Beyond the Badge NY. Peters Clam Bar, located in Island Park, is about to host its 9th annual Clam Eating Contest. Every year, Peters Clam Bar hosts this contest to raise funds for a charity. This year, the proceeds of the event will go to the organization, Beyond the Badge NY.
The Clam Eating Contest will have two challenges, one at 1:00 PM where firefighters and first responders will compete to slurp down as many clams as possible for this great cause. There will be a second round for the public at 2:30.
During each challenge, there are 2 rounds, the first round is 2 minutes, and the second round is 1 minute. By the end of the day, someone will likely slurp down about 150 clams by themselves.
Butch Yamali, owner and founder of the Dover Group has easily donated over 40,000 clams since the inception of the event. Do you have what it takes to enter the challenge? You can sign up here. If you don’t want to compete, join us for the festivities at Peters Clam Bar, located at 600 Long Beach Road, Island Park, NY 11558.
“We have always wanted to help the first responders who have helped us. This restaurant was completely demolished after Sandy, the first responders have been there for us, we want to be there for them.”
