Students from the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park School District dove into the world of words last month, as they took part in story time with librarians.

The district partners annually with Hillside Public Library to encourage reading during the summer months. The students participated both virtually and in-person for eight sessions from July 16 to 25. Each session had a theme, a read aloud, songs, educational games, and more.

During the session on July 25, incoming second graders listened to the librarians
read aloud “The Three Little Fish and the Big Bad Shark” and “Smiley Shark.” As part of the
ocean theme, they also sang two shark-themed songs and participated in sea creature
trivia. Each student received a packet to take home with a calendar of library events, a
summer reading challenge, a bookmark, and a shark craft.
