Upcoming Events at the Hillside Public Library

The Hillside Public Library is sponsoring a Basic First Aid Supplies Drive to support Ukraine. Needed items include Band Aids, Sterile Eye Dressings; Gauze Dressings; Safety Pins; Tweezers and Scissors; Skin Rash Creams; Pain Relievers and Digital Thermometers. There is a bin at the library for your donations, and we thank you for your generosity.

Hillside Public Library is partnering with Long Island Coalition for the Homeless in a School Supply Drive. Needed items include the following: Staplers and staples; Post-Its; Pencil Sharpeners; Lunch boxes; Highlighters; Paper Clips; 3 Hole Punches; White out; Permanent Markers and Backpacks. Donation boxes are at the library.

PROGRAMS and EVENTS
Weekly Summer Trivia –Marvel – Virtual Monday, August 8 – Friday, August 12. Sign up to be emailed the Baseball trivia! Trivia will be emailed out on Monday, August 1 at 10am. You can either complete the Google Form sent out OR complete the sheet and either bring it to the reference desk or email it back to contact-us@hillsidelibrary.info with the subject HILLSIDE SCIENCE TRIVIA by Friday, August 12 at 11:59 PM. All who return a trivia sheet will be entered in to a raffle to win a prize, regardless of score!

Summer Bingo! – All Purpose Room, 2nd Floor Monday, August 8 at 12 noon. Join us for fun games of Bingo! Winners will win prizes!

Tastes of Ancient China: Beyond Rice and Tea – All Purpose Room, 2nd Floor Tuesday, August 9 at 6:30 p.m. A Delicious Discussion with Food Historian and Educator, Andrew Coletti! Patrons have the option of attending this program either in-person or virtually via Zoom. This program is made possible with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

Fresh Fiction Book Club – All Purpose Room and Virtual Wednesday, August 10 at 6:30 p.m. The book being discussed is: Anxious People by Fredrik Backman. A group of people are taken hostage by a failed bank robber, who soon regrets his decision, since he is now trapped with the worst group of people.

Paint Night: Perseid Meteor Shower! – Virtual Friday, August 12 at 7 p.m. Sketch and paint a wonderous meteor shower – and don’t miss the actual Perseid Meteor Shower tonight and tomorrow night! From beginners to advanced sketchers and painters, enjoy a fun and relaxing evening painting with Alma in the comfort of your own home. Island Escape Adventure! All Purpose Room, 2nd Floor Thursday, August 11 at 5 p.m. Ages: 5 years- 8 years. Children will play an Island Adventure game, where they have to build a sailboat out of LEGOs and experiment whether their boat can move in water and how many people they can save off the Island! Materials Fee: $2
