Members of the Nassau County Legislature’s Minority Caucus joined leaders of the Nassau County Police Department and their colleagues in government on Wednesday, May 11 for a memorial ceremony honoring sworn and civilian NCPD members who have passed away and the officers who lost their lives in the line of duty throughout the department’s history dating back to 1925.
Members in attendance included Nassau County Legislator Siela A. Bynoe (D – Westbury), Debra Mulé (D – Freeport), Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove), Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) and Joshua Lafazan (D – Woodbury).
The solemn ceremony coincides with the observance of National Police Week in America, a tradition that was established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy to give special recognition to law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty while serving the public.
