Mineola Middle School recently hosted a series of workshops geared toward motivating female students with an interest in coding.
The Girls Who Code Speaker Series featured different female speakers in coding/engineering-related fields serving as role models and explaining their careers to a group of fifth- through seventh-grade students. In a series held on Dec. 13, two Mineola graduates from 2005 were featured speakers – Michele Guido, a programmer, communicated through Skype from Germany, and Jessica Cox (formerly Napolitano), who is a data scientist. Each one spoke about how they got to their current positions, as well as what their job entails. Students were able to ask them questions and even received guided feedback from the guests on current projects they were completing.
