The Great Neck Water Pollution Control District has announced that Great Neck resident Mark Berger has been sworn in as the newest member of the GNWPCD Board of Commissioners following his victory in the Dec. 12 election.
Berger took his oath of office during the district’s meeting on Jan. 4 and will serve in his role for the next three years. He fills the seat on the Board which opened following the retirement of Jerry Landsberg, who held the role of GNWPCD Commissioner for 16 years.
“I am truly honored to have been chosen by my neighbors to serve our community as GNWPCD Commissioner,” said Berger. “I have a strong passion for public service and environmental advocacy, and I am dedicated to serving the Great Neck Peninsula to the best of my ability. I look forward to working with my fellow commissioners, Superintendent Christopher Murphy and our dedicated staff to continue the great work that our District does to protect our environment.”
Berger and his wife have lived in Great Neck since 2010, raising three children who all attend Great Neck public schools. He believes that preserving Great Neck’s environment is the key to ensuring that the District’s residents will prosper and thrive for generations to come. This idea serves as a driving force for his desire to serve his community as a member of the GNWPCD Board.
Formerly an attorney for the New York City Police Department, Berger currently operates as a supervising attorney at the largest public interest law firm in the United States.
He brings an extensive knowledge of what it takes to negotiate contracts for the betterment of those he represents. He is looking forward to combining this expertise with his passion for the local environment as he takes on the role of GNWPCD commissioner.
