Seeking members of long-Term facilities planning committee

The Board of Education of the Manhasset Union Free School District is seeking interested Manhasset residents to serve on a Long-Term Facilities Planning Committee.

The board is in the early stages of considering a potential bond financing proposition up for a public vote in late 2022/early 2023.

The district’s voters last approved a bond issuance in 2014. With a view toward the repayment schedule of that bond issue in the context of the current and future capital needs of the district, the board would like to establish this committee to assist in assessing and prioritizing capital projects to be included in the scope of work presented to the voters in late 2022/early 2023.

The LTFPC will serve as a liaison to the community, working with the District administrative team, the district’s architect, and a Board liaison.

In addition to helping to identify and prioritize capital projects, the purpose of the committee is to endeavor to reflect community interest and inquiries about facilities needs, provide feedback, and enhance public understanding of the specifics of a proposed issuance of long-term bonds.

The LTFPC is anticipated to commence its work in early April 2022. Meetings are anticipated to be held at each of the district’s school buildings. Meetings will be held primarily on weekday evenings in person, on a schedule to be determined by the committee, with the frequency necessary so that the committee is ready to report to the BOE in June. Specific projects will be identified for inclusion in a current and long-range plan through 2027.

The committee’s work will continue during the summer, so that the board can finalize the bond proposition in September 2022. The committee’s work will conclude in late calendar 2022/early calendar 2023 when a bond proposition is presented to the community for public vote.

The committee will consist of 16 members representing a cross-section of residents with varying interests and experience with the District: Munsey Park – three parent members; Shelter Rock – three parent members; Secondary School – five parent members; general community – five members.
