Herricks High School student honored for essay

Herricks High School junior Mayur Talele was named a runner-up in Optimum’s Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest. He was formally recognized during a virtual ceremony on Dec. 16 and received an iPad as a prize.

The contest asked entrants to write about a Hispanic hero, and Mayur’s essay focuses on an individual named José, who he looks up to as a positive role model.

“I found this to be the perfect opportunity to write about a Hispanic person that had a strong impact on my life,” Mayur said.

Congratulations to Mayur for writing a touching essay and earning this recognition
