Founded by the late Harry Chapin, Long Island Cares, Inc. brings together all available resources for the benefit of the hungry and food insecure on Long Island and, to the best of our ability, provides for the humanitarian needs of our community.
The Agency’s goals are to improve food security for families, sponsor programs that help families achieve self-sufficiency, and educate the general public about the causes and consequences of hunger on Long Island. The Long Island Cares vision is “A Hunger Free Long Island”.
David Paseltiner, the chair of Jaspan Schlesinger’s corporate and commercial transactions practice group, joined the Board of Long Island Cares in 2001 and remained on the Board for the next 18 years. David served as Board President in 2008 and 2009. Jaspan Schlesinger LLP provided pro bono legal representation to Long Island Cares in 2002 when it acquired its Hauppauge, New York headquarters, and both David and the Firm have been long-time supporters of Long Island Cares.
