Great Neck Historical Society Program – Thursday, July 21, 7:30 p.m.
Architect Emery Roth

Many of New York City’s most celebrated apartment buildings, such as The Ritz Tower, the Oliver Cromwell and the Beresford were designed by Emery Roth, who came to America as a young boy from Hungary and rose to prominence through hard work and a natural talent. While Roth is best known for his hotels and apartment buildings, he did design one private residence in the Village of Great Neck Estates and it survives today.

The Great Neck Historical Society is proud to announce that Andrew Cronson will present a program about Emery Roth, his architectural innovations, accomplishments and the rare dwelling he built here. Mr. Cronson is a young architectural historian and expert on Long Island residential architecture who is introducing us to hidden treasures in Great Neck, most recently the Telephone Building in Great Neck Plaza.

Mr. Cronson received his undergraduate degree from New York University Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development. He will be starting graduate school in the fall at Columbia University.

He currently serves as Vice President of the Save Chelsea organization where he is responsible for the advancement of their special projects and digital initiatives. He has also led a multi-year campaign to restore a monumental mural by noted artist, Julien Binford.

His preservation work has been featured in local and national publications including The New York Times, Newsday, AmNY, Untapped Cities, Vanishing New York, The Villager, Chelsea Community News, The Williston Times, WABC News, and Manhattan Express.
He is also a member of the Wings Club, Archivists Roundtable of Metropolitan New York, and the New York Academy of Sciences.

The Great Neck Historical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to collecting, preserving and presenting the history and heritage of the peninsula. The community is invited to attend the Thursday, July 21, 7:30 p.m. program via zoom. To receive a zoom link, please sign up by July 20. https://bit.ly/EmeryRothandGreatNeckEstates
