Floral Park-Bellerose Union Free School District students from Girl Scout Troop 1188 presented their work on two Buddy Benches at the May 9 board of education meeting.

The troop has been working to achieve its Bronze Award this year. The students worked together to create two Buddy Benches, one for Floral Park-Bellerose School and one for John Lewis Childs School. They researched the materials needed and the cost of those materials, fundraised to build their benches, and assisted in building and decorating them. The goal of a Buddy Bench is to promote kindness and inclusion for all children.

The students created a slideshow to highlight their work and presented it to the board and Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Sottile. The board approved the donation of the Buddy Benches.
