Garden City Park School hosts Read Aloud Week

Garden City Park School students were treated to special activities and guest readers during Read Aloud Week, which was held from March 7-11.

Classes utilized Google Meets and Zoom to virtually welcome their guest readers. Students enjoyed listening to stories read by North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena, Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder, Hillside Public Library librarians, Homeland Security Officer Todd Atkin, POP Officer Mike Costanzo, Police Officer Luis Serrano and children’s book illustrator Tom Lin. New Hyde Park Memorial High School Principal Dr. Richard Faccio and Assistant Principal Gina Rodriguez, as well as several department chairs, also read to the students. New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Union Free School District Director of Curriculum and Instruction Jim Svendsen, District Literacy Coach Vivian Sirakis Manor Oaks School Principal Jane Ruthkowski and Assistant Principal Laura Caines were also among the guest readers.

Additionally, Garden City Park School students were read to by familiar faces in the building, including Principal Amy Sullivan, sixth grade students, PTA President Joyce Wheeler and retired fourth grade teacher John Contratti.
