The New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Union Free School District debuted a financial literacy program this school year for all students in grades K-6 at its four buildings.

During the summer months, math support and financial literacy teachers Christine Margro, Eileen Prymaczek and Susan Schlueck worked together to create the framework and curriculum for the program. The lessons will cover various age-appropriate finance topics, such as checking/savings accounts, wants versus needs when buying items, stocks, 401Ks, cryptocurrency and more. Each grade-level will meet with their financial literacy teacher once per week for about three-four lessons. Margro is working with New Hyde Park Road School students, Prymaczek is at Garden City Park School, and Schlueck divides her time between Hillside Grade School and Manor Oaks School.

The program kicked off with the sixth grade classes, who are currently learning about stocks. Students utilized Yahoo! Finance to get accustomed to checking the highs and lows of the stock market. Additionally, they learned about stock diversification and what factors can affect the market.
