FCA, a leading health and human services not-for-profit organization on Long Island, recently welcomed Ira Berkowitz, CPA as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Ira joins FCA with over 30 years of non-profit financial experience, serving the last 25 years as a CFO. Dr. Jeffrey L. Reynolds, PhD., President and Chief Executive Officer at FCA, made the announcement.

“I am especially pleased to welcome Ira to FCA,” said Reynolds. “It is essential for a health and human services organization such as FCA to have timely and relevant financial information to meet the demands of government grants and other funding sources, and to help us make sound financial decisions. Ira not only has the expertise to support our mission; he shares our deep commitment to the communities we serve.”

Ira has a history of financial leadership in the not-for-profit sphere. In addition to consulting for several non-profits in scaling, fundraising, grant writing and internal control implementation, Ira served as the CFO of the National Academy Foundation (NAF) from 2009 to 2020. NAF academies operate in high need communities around the U.S., working with a national network of education, business, and community leaders who work together to ensure high school students are college, career, and future ready. Ira was instrumental in scaling NAF from an $8 million organization to over $25 million during his tenure as CFO and leaving the organization in the best financial condition in its 40-year history.

Prior to NAF, Ira worked as the first CFO and later COO at The Center for Jewish History, a cultural institution in New York City. Ira was responsible for all operations of the 135,000 square foot facility and saw the organization grow from a start-up to having a budget of over $35 million during his 11-year tenure. Ira was the lead on government grants and oversaw the grant budgets and grant reporting.
“It’s been my good fortune to spend a largest part of my career helping not-for-profit organizations,” noted Ira. “There’s a real benefit to working for and supporting organizations that help people. It’s another way to give back to our neighbors.”
A resident of Plainview, Ira enjoys live sports and entertainment, Broadway shows, cultural institutions and spending time with family and friends.
