Manor Oaks School fifth graders in the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park School District put their studies of kinetic and potential energy to the test during a recent Energy and Collision module.
The module, part of the Project Lead the Way curriculum, includes students testing collisions with their Vex robotics kits and using half pipes to simulate a crash. The students worked in teams to record the crashes, using the slow-motion capture on their Chromebooks to record their observations.
The activity is a building block to the students’ culminating project of creating crash prevention systems. Students will use the data they acquired to keep a raw egg safe during a collision.
