Northwell Health has appointed Dr. Fiona Levy as medical director at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, where she will oversee the hospital’s medical staff, lead staff engagement and development while participating in community outreach efforts for the largest provider of pediatric health services in New York State.
Cohen Children’s has been rated the No. 1 children’s hospital in the state and earned top national rankings for exceptional care in nine pediatric specialties, according to US News & World Report’s 2021-2022 Best Children’s Hospitals.
Levy, who will also serve as vice president for Northwell’s pediatric service line, succeeds Dr. Peter Silver, who was recently named senior vice president and chief quality officer at the health system.
“Having Dr. Levy back here at Cohen Children’s will be such a great asset for us,” said Dr. Charles Schleien, senior vice president and chair of pediatric services at Northwell. “Her experience in clinical and administrative duties, as well as her intellect, personality and ability to get through difficult issues will be recognized by everyone in our hospital as a major positive.”
Levy rejoins Cohen Children’s after a stint at NYU Langone Health’s Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital, where she served as executive director of the Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered Care since 2014.
She also was vice chair of clinical affairs for the Department of Pediatrics at the NYU School of Medicine.
From 2011 to 2014, Levy served as an attending physician in the intensive care unit at Cohen Children’s as well as the hospital’s vice president and chief quality officer. Dr. Levy began her medical career at children’s hospitals in St. Louis and Dallas.
Levy earned her medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, a master of business administration from Washington University in St. Louis and a bachelor of science in chemistry from Wellesley College. She completed her residency at SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse and a fellowship at Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Seattle, WA.

In addition, Dr. Nancy Palumbo, who served as the hospital’s interim medical director since January, has been promoted to associate medical director for Cohen Children’s. Prior to that, Dr. Palumbo was chief of hospital medicine. She joined Cohen Children’s in 2008.
