Town of North Hempstead
The Town of North Hempstead will be hosting its 9/11 Memorial Ceremony at 8:15 a.m. on Sept. 11 at Manhasset Valley Park, located on East Shore Road and Northern Boulevard.
“It is hard to imagine that it has been 23 years since the 9/11 attacks. But despite the many years, the day is as heartbreaking as ever for our North Hempstead family,” Supervisor Jennifer DeSena said. “We lost 56 residents that day, so it is especially significant that we come together as a community each year to honor their memory. I invite neighbors to please join us as we remember these loved ones and the brave heroism of our first responders with a special ceremony at the Town’s 9/11 Memorial at Manhasset Valley Park.”
Great Neck
The Village of Saddle Rock and Temple Israel of Great Neck will hold a memorial ceremony at 6 p.m. on Sept. 11 at the Saddle Rock Bridge, which has been renamed the 9/11 Memorial Bridge.
The bridge was renamed due to its direct line of sight to the former World Trade Center. On the day of the terrorist attacks, residents gathered on the bridge to watch the travesty.
A memorial service has been held every year since 2002.
Speakers this year will include Rabbi Howard Stecker and Fred Sager, a close friend of the Ielpi family, and Jonathon Ielpi, who was a New York City firefighter killed during the terrorist attacks.
Jonathan Ielpi, who also served as a chief for the Great Neck Vigilant Fire Department and graduated from North High, was the only firefighter from Great Neck who died that day. He was 29.
Fred Sager and Lee Ielpi, Jonathon Ielpis’s father, spent 30 days together searching through the rubble for Jonathon Ielpi’s body until it was uncovered.
Great Neck’s three fire departments will attend the service and park their trucks on the bridge during it. The bridge will be closed to traffic during the service.
Manorhaven
The Village of Manorhaven will be hosting its annual 9/11 Memorial and Ceremony outside of the Village Hall at the 9/11 Memorial at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
In 2017, the Port Washington Fire Department gave the village a sapling tree from 9/11. The sapling was originally planted in the Preserve but recently was relocated to the 9/11 Memorial at the Village Hall.
Town of Oyster Bay
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board invite residents to join them at the Town’s annual Sept. 11 Memorial Ceremony scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. at TOBAY Beach.
“This year marks the 21st anniversary of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, and to honor those we have lost we invite all residents to join us at our annual Sept. 11 Memorial Ceremony. This remembrance ceremony features music, religious readings, a light tribute, and a reading of the names inscribed on the Town’s 9/11 wall,” Supervisor Saladino said. “We will also unveil new names inscribed on the Town’s ‘Walls of Honor,’ recognizing those who gave the ultimate sacrifice due to 9/11 related illness.”
The Town’s 9/11 Memorial – featuring a steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center – is inscribed with the names of residents lost on Sept. 11, 2001. The Walls of Honor monument expands each year with newly inscribed names of those who lost their battle with 9/11 illness caused by exposure at Ground Zero.
Farmingdale
The Farmingdale United Methodist Church will hold a Remembrance Service at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8, for the 23rd anniversary of 9/11.

All firemen/emergency responders and their families are invited to attend, as is the general public.
