After two consecutive Small School Division 1 championship wins, the Mineola Mustangs High School Marching Band is back on the field in top form and preparing to make history again with their new show.

This year’s show, “The Jitterbug Café,” featured all original music composed by Ken Kamping, the band director. In keeping with a decades-long tradition, the rehearsal season started with a six-day marching band camp held at Camp Towanda in the Poconos in August. The 135 students and their teachers made the most of the excursion, including hours of practice, learning each note and step of the imaginative and intricate arrangement.
The band camp also included fun activities and opportunities for teamwork and bonding, including the annual senior bonfire.
Back at home, Long Island Ducks fans will be among the first to get a sneak peak of
the new show when the Marching Band and Color Guard perform as part of pre-game
festivities Sept. 1 at the ballpark in Central Islip.
The Mineola Mustangs High School Marching Band competition season begins on Sept. 17 at Brentwood High School and culminates with the New York State Field Band Conference Championships in Syracuse Oct. 27, where the band said it is “once again hoping to hoist the championship cup.”
