The Port Washington Play Troupe has announced upcoming auditions for “It’s a Wonderful Life,” a radio adaptation by Bob Nissen.
This beloved American holiday classic comes to captivating life as a live 1940s radio broadcast. With the help of an ensemble that brings a few dozen characters to the stage, the story of idealistic George Bailey unfolds as he considers ending his life one fateful Christmas Eve.
This production has been awarded the HEARTS PW Gina Farasciano Community Theater Grant. Performances will take place on Dec. 15 and Dec. 17 at the Port Washington Public Library.
Production Details:
- Very light rehearsal period as there is no need to memorize lines. (All actors will be performing from scripts in the style of a radio drama.)
- Musical numbers, “vintage radio commercials,” and live foley sound effects will be used in the style of old-time radio shows.
- Cast must be available on December 14, 15, and 17.
Audition Details:
- Wednesday, October 18, 7:30-9:30 pm. St. Stephen’s Church, 9 Carlton Ave, Port Washington. St. Cecelia Room (entrance under the main entrance of the church on Carlton Ave.)
- Thursday, October 19, 7:30-9:30 pm. Bach 2 Rock, 1015 Port Washington Blvd., Port Washington.
Roles:
- Seeking actors 16 years old and older.
- Readings will be from the script and will be based on vocal inflection. Actors may be asked to try different roles using different characterization/voice quality.
Singers:
- Please bring 16 bars of music – preferably in the style of the 1940s or a holiday tune.
- The musical director will accompany all auditions on piano, so please bring a score. (If auditioning for a role, you do not necessarily need to audition for musical numbers.)
