A Virginia man was arrested in Manorhaven Wednesday for occupying a boat he did not own and damaging the boat when he attempted to flee, according to Nassau County Police.

Police said witnesses saw Benjamin Fields standing on a boat that was not his on the docks of 10 Matinecock Ave. around 8:40 a.m. Wednesday. After being confronted, he untied the boat from the dock which led it to crash into another docked boat.

Fields then fled on foot but Police say he was arrested shortly after.

He has been charged with first-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Fields was arraigned in Nassau County First District Court Thursday morning where he pled not guilty and was released on bail with non-monetary conditions. He scheduled to appear in court again Aug. 17.
