June events at the Floral Park Library

The circus is coming to town – on the Library lawn – as the 100th birthday celebration continues. Children of all ages can enjoy circus performers, performer workshops, and more. The cotton candy comes courtesy of the office of New York State Assemblywoman Michaelle Solanges, who represents the 22nd Assembly District, which includes Floral Park.

Adult programs this month include: From Thought to Action: Bring Your Short Story to Life; Monday’s Movie Matinee “Tar;” Communicate with Confidence hosted by the Elmer A. Sperry Toastmasters  organization of New Hyde Park; and a Belmont Stakes-ready Make Your Own Fashionable Fascinator with P[art]y Art.

Floral Park Library’s Urban Explorers visited Brooklyn’s national historical landmark that is Green-Wood Cemetery in May. The trip was followed up with lunch before the return to Floral Park. June will find the Explorers uptown at the Morris-Jumel mansion, the oldest surviving residence in New York City.

For the kiddos, there’s an Environmental Awareness program; 2-session blueberry scones making with Chefs of d’Future, Pre-K thru Grade 2 Storycraft; Play Hooray; Funkytown Playground (ages 2.5 – pre-school); and Baby Start and Family Pre-school Hour with A Time for Kids. The Pom Pom Queen helps the little ones make a Father’s Day gift, and a to-be-announced-project for children in grades 3 – 5.

We keep it light for Teens in June so they can focus on end-of-year school activities and events. Since they like their food and their art, there’s a Teen/Tween P[art]Y Art event and a Quesadilla program with Chefs of d’Future.

The Monday Morning Friends of the Floral Park Library Book Club and the Evening Edition Book Club hold  their regularly scheduled meetings. The Made with Love Knitting and Crocheting group meets Mondays at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m.

In May, we welcomed Jazmin Mooney, our new Reference Librarian, to the Library. We look forward to working together on programs and events our patrons can enjoy.

The Library Board holds its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. on June 14th. The Library is closed on Sunday, May 14th for Father’s Day.

One-to-one tech help for tablets, smartphones, laptops and Kindles is available for our patrons by appointment only.

Call the Library (516 326-6330) to check days and times for the Book Nook, as hours may vary. All sales of books, DVDs, etc. support the Friends of the Floral Park Library, a 501c3 organization.
