The New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Denise Connolly as principal of the New Hyde Park Road School Monday.

She will take over for Kim LaRegina, who is resigning from her current position of seven years on June 30 this year and beginning her probationary appointment as director of curriculum and instruction for the district July 1.

Connolly was previously the assistant principal of New Hyde Park Road School after being named to the same position on an interim basis in August 2020.

Connolly started her career in the district in 2005 when she was an English as a New Language and special education teacher, primarily serving as the ENL liaison for kindergarten to sixth grade.

Superintendent Jennifer Morrison congratulated Connolly and shared her appreciation with the audience, which included much of Connolly’s family.

“To your mom and dad, we want to say thank you for raising Ms. Connolly to be the woman she is and the leader she is and the person she is,” Morrison said. “She is a blessing to have around and we are very fortunate to have her take over this role.”

Connolly has a Bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education from St. Joseph’s College and a Master’s degree in education from Queens College and Walden University.

The next New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Board of Education meeting will be held on Monday, April 17, at 8 p.m. at Manor Oaks.
