My son was a teacher at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL., who was murdered during the horrific shooting that took place Feb. 14, 2018. There is not a day that goes by where I do not think of him. No mother, family member, friend or co-worker should ever have to go through what I did that day.

Over the last four years, far too many have lost a loved one to gun violence….this must stop! We cannot allow the gun lobby to continue holding us hostage. State Sen. Anna Kaplan has a well-earned F rating from the NRA. Senator Kaplan puts the safety of her constituents first.

Everyone has the right to be safe and everyone has the right to live without fear. We need leaders like Senator Kaplan with the courage to stand up to the gun lobby. I am proud to work alongside my friend, state Sen. Anna Kaplan, to fight for commonsense gun safety.

Sen. Kaplan sponsored the Scott J. Beigel Unfinished Receiver Act, named after my son. This legislation bans dangerous and untraceable ghost guns (guns without serial numbers) in New York. Anna has been a
strong supporter of the Scott J. Beigel Memorial Fund, which provides camperships to help send at-risk children touched by gun violence to summer sleep-away camp. The goal is to help stop the cycle of violence by keeping children off the streets away from guns and gangs.

Our community and our country have so much at stake this November. Gun violence and our right to safety are on the ballot. I am proud to support my friend Anna Kaplan for re-election to the New York State Senate. I hope you will join me in voting for Anna on November 8th.
