The opening of the East Hills village pool has been postponed, according to Mayor Michael Koblenz.
During a meeting on May 26, the East Hills Board of Trustees had discussed the upcoming opening of the community pool. But Koblenz notified locals over the weekend that the opening had to be postponed because of issues with the pool’s pump and controls.
“We worked late last night with a company that services the Town of North Hempstead pools, along with other large pools,” he said. “The pump started up and we were finally able to fill the pool. However, the pool needs to be heated and the chemicals added and balanced safety.”
Koblenz said an emergency board meeting was held to review the situation.
He went on to say that Michael Kosinski, a resident who worked with him when the village park was constructed and is familiar with the pool’s inner workings, was attempting to discover a solution to the pump’s failure.
“We are having additional meetings with the pool company to determine what needs to be completed in order to correct the problems,” he wrote. “We do not yet know the status and reliability of the pumps.”
The village hopes to get the pool functioning by next weekend, subject to the availability of any necessary parts.
