WHEREAS, trees in our Village increase property value, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, beautify our community and bring a source of joy and spiritual renewal; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Floral Park in 1943 established a local village ordinance, Chapter 92 – Trees, in its Village code, to protect and care for its shade tree inventory and canopy; and
WHEREAS, the Village established a Tree Board, Shade Tree Department and Parks Department to maintain a Village Shade Tree Plan for the care, preservation, pruning and planting of trees and shrubs in parks, along streets and other public areas; and

Well said Mayor. Many street trees are being butchered by incompetent/inexperienced and /or unsupervised workers. In many cases all the branches get cut off on one side and in a few years the tree is leaning towards the overweighted side. this makes the tree more likely to fall in windy , wet conditions endangering people and property .
proper pruning around power lines is needed , not full scale canopy hacking.
Well wishes to the Tree Board other communities should follow your lead.
