Nine Herricks seniors named National Merit Finalists

Herricks High School is proud to announce that all nine seniors who were named National Merit Semifinalists in the fall have advanced to Finalist standing in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Chloe Chang, Amber Joneleit, Wafiq Khondkar, Roshni Patel, Pranati Patnam, Lamiya Rangwala, Keneil Soni, Olivia Teng and Kyla Ye are among approximately 15,000 finalists across the nation.

All nine are academically accomplished students and achieved the Semifinalist distinction based on their Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test scores. They attained Finalist recognition by meeting high academic standards along with other requirements.

These students are active in their school and community. Chloe is president of Model UN and Amnesty International and serves as captain of the girls tennis team. Amber has earned All-Conference and MVP acknowledgments as a soccer player, is a Girl Scouts Gold Award recipient and interned with the United States Air Force over the summer. Wafiq participates in robotics, soccer and the Herricks International Children’s Aid Program. Roshni is President of the Environmental Club and Art Club and is a second place award recipient in the International DECA Conference. Pranati serves as Treasurer for the Student Government Executive Board as well as the Chamber Choir, and participates in the Music and Mindfulness Club.

Lamiya is vice president of the STEM Club and serves on the board of the Herricks Highlander Newspaper in addition to her involvement in DECA. Keneil serves as president of Tri-M and the FED Challenge, and is captain of the cross-country team. Olivia has served as president of Academic Quiz Bowl and vice president of Youth Against Cancer, and holds science research awards in JSHS Regional Semifinals and Long Island Science Congress competitions. Kyla is treasurer of the Herricks Literary Club and Paper Bridges and tutors students through the Learn to Be organization.

Finalists are eligible to earn scholarship awards that will be announced and presented later this spring.
