Every February, Harbor Hill Elementary School students have fun participating in an activity called Passport to a Healthy Heart, where they are introduced to lifelong fitness concepts. Physical education teachers Vera Trenchfield and Patrick Christopher set up various stations inside the gym, focused on cardiovascular endurance and strength training. As music pumps, students rotate stations and record their performance information in a personal passport.
For several years, Ms. Trenchfield has made it a tradition to host this activity as a precursor to The American Heart Association’s fundraiser: The Kids Heart Challenge. “We look to keep students active,” she said, and we challenge them to do their personal best.”
