A woman was killed when she was struck by a car while crossing a street in Manhasset on Sunday night, the Nassau County Police Department said.

Detectives said that around  8:05 p.m., the woman was attempting to cross from the east side to west side on Plandome Road and was struck by a 2018 Toyota traveling northbound in the vicinity of Park Avenue.

The pedestrian, 79, suffered multiple injuries and was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead at 11:52 p.m.

The female operator, also 79, stayed at the scene. Police conducted brake and safety checks on the car.

Neither the victim nor the operator has been publicly identified, and police say the investigation is ongoing.
