A $3,000 scholarship is available for Long Island high school juniors and seniors, as well as college freshmen and sophomores – and all you need to do to win is submit a short video.
The required video should be about pedestrian and vehicle safety, with the $3,000 being offered by the New York State Coalition for Transportation Safety. Students who wish to enter must create a short video that illustrates one or more of the vehicle and traffic laws for pedestrian enforcement.
These videos are one way to educate the public on traffic safety as several Long Island communities have become known for an increase in pedestrian deaths and fatalities related to motor vehicle crashes. If understood and followed., these traffic laws would likely decrease the rising numbers
The deadline for video submissions is Aug. 31. More information on the scholarship, including contest rules, pedestrian and vehicle laws, and instructions to submit your videos can be found at www.walksafeli.org/video.
