The day before fall equinox, Sept. 21, some members of Sewanhaka High School’s Green Club and their adviser, Yvonne Sherwood, dove into the courtyard for some much-needed work.
For two hours, the Greenies pulled weeds in a few flowerbeds, deadheaded the marigolds, and raked leaves around the tree and the perimeter of the pond. With many hands, they also planted seven “soon-to-be” colorful mums, deposited 10 bags of black mulch, prepped a section of a bed for grass seed and watered all of the lovely plants.
“The courtyard looks vibrant and fresh again,” Sherwood said.
