Readers Write: Dems failed African-Americans

If the African-American community is satisfied with the results of what has happened to them for the last 50, 60 years, they should continue to vote as they have for decades for the Democrats.
In this presidential election, vote for Hillary. Period.
However, they should consider the contributions they have made to America and start thinking why shouldn’t they have a greater say in the direction of America in the future?
In fact, since the nation is essentially split down the middle, they must now realize that they are in the driver‘s seat, politically speaking.
The movement of some of them, say 10 percent of the 95 percent of them normally voting for the Dems, will go a long way toward giving the Democrats and Republicans a lot to think about!
The Republicans have essentially ignored blacks and their desires and the Democrats have lied to them for 50 plua years about their great concern for their needs and desires.
Military Contributions:
1. The Military- Terrible white men in Europe and America with equally terrible black men in Africa created slavery on these shores.
Fast forward to the Civil War and blacks fought with the North and won their freedom.
The New York Times 6/15/14: “Before the 15th New York National Guard Regiment was formed, black Americans who wanted to enlist against the Germans in World War I had to join the French or Canadian Army.
By the end of the war, this all-black regiment was famous on both sides of the Atlantic for never losing an inch of ground to the enemy, or a single man to capture.”
This blew my mind. In the same article: When a French lieutenant warned Sgt. Henry Johnson, a former Albany railroad porter, to withdraw in the face of a possible enemy attack, he famously declared, “I’m an American, and I never retreat.”
2. And what about the 761st Tank Battalion?
It was activated on April 1, 1942 at Camp Claiborne, La., and deployed to Europe, landing at Omaha Beach in France on Oct. 10, 1944.
This unit was latter referred to as the Black Panther Tank Battalion.
It was attached to the XII Corps’ 26th Infantry Division assigned to Gen. George S. Patton Junior’s Third Army racing eastward across France and committed to combat on Nov. 7, 1944.
It was stated as a result of their fighting abilities they spearheaded a number of Patton’s moves into enemy territory.
They forced a hole in the Siegfried Line, allowing Patton’s 4th Armored Division to pour through Germany.
They fought in France, Belgium and Germany and were among the first American forces to link up with the Soviet Army.
3. The article reads on 5/10/16 in The Wall Street Journal: “Strong, Proud Black Women At West Point” — seventeen black women cadets are candidates for graduation….where the student body is only 1.7 percent African-American women …[but] black women now represent one-third [33 1/3 percent] of all women serving in the military “ — [when they are only 6.5 percent of the U.S. population]. Sports Contributions: Jesse Owens [track] winning gold in the Olympics in Germany almost driving Hitler into cardiac arrest…[baseball] Jackie Robinson stealing home against the Yankees and forcing Yogi Berra [and me] to go crazy…[boxing[ Joe Louis, Ali, George Foreman, etc. who kept us on the edge of our seats during each fight…[tennis] Arthur Ashe and the Williams sisters…[golf] Tiger Woods…[basketball] Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul Jabbar…these people have brought joy and fun to sport fans for decades.
Entertainment Contributions:
Sammy Davis, Jr., Louis Armstrong [Satchmo], Billie Holiday, Dorothy Dandridge, Moms Mobley, Denzel Washington, Bill Robinson, Morgan Freeman, James Earl Jones, Danny Glover, Forest Whitaker, Jammie Fox, Eddie Murphy, Halle Berry, Queen Latifah,  Whoopi Goldberg, Alicia Keys, Chris Rock, Fats Domino, B.B. King, Will Smith, Lena Horne….and on and on and on.
Cultural Institutions :
Article in The New York Times on 7/31/16:  “The Disrupters” — “For years, the boards of New York’s major cultural institutions have been largely all white. That’s beginning to change-slowly and not without some pressure.”
They listed a number of black men who are intimately involved in various institutions including one man who pledged $15 million to Carnegie Hall.
Thus, it is apparent that the African-American community has established itself in the fabric of America.
So the question is why is it that the Democrats who control the large cities like Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Camden, etc. allow ghetto projects to grow, crime to increase, poverty levels that are unacceptable to all Americans able to continue getting minority vote.
And why aren’t the African-American “leaders” doing anything about these subjects?

  1. The nation is NOT split down the middle, colorwise. Democrats are heavily weighted toward the blacks. Blacks are 13% of the population, but 90% of them vote Democrat. Considering that the population has always been dominated by Caucasians of European Christian culture, that group is responsible for America holding the position it does in the world. Caucasians have nothing to feel guilty about, having freed the slaves over 150 years ago and continually improving the lot of the descendants of slaves. History shows that the Democrat party has vigorously opposed equality for blacks, while Republicans have favored them, and are responsible for them having the freedoms today that they have.
Which presents the question – why do blacks vote so heavily Democrat if that is the party that has tried to hold them back?
